Dogs are just an animal that most people have a soft spot for. So do we!
Many times in our previous roles as police officers, we've had puppies running around the duty room to get used to the crowds and the environment between playing, learning and working. But the fact is that in many different contexts we also have dogs as a tool to be used at the right time in the right context. One of the latest additions to the police dog profession is the use of fire dogs. Other countries have been ahead of the curve on this, but 5-6 years ago the balloon finally burst in Denmark.
Documentary from DR
In DR's documentary ”Kriminelt: Can Loki become the police's new fire dog?” follows the work of training a dog in this skill. And you are impressed by how a snout manages to find a tiny drop of flammable liquid in the middle of a fire.
As you can see from the broadcast, Denmark has 1-2 fire dogs in their dog population, and the experience with these is that you:
1: saves a lot of resources as forensic scientists can target their evidence collection at a fire scene
2: increases the chance of actually finding evidence, as the nose is sharper than the eye at this point.
This gives the police a sharp tool among their forensic experts.

Are fire dogs relevant to business?
It is a fact that many fires in Denmark are not investigated by the police. This is partly a question of resources and priorities, and partly a question of the seriousness of the individual fire cases. In cases without personal injury or serious building damage, police reports are not always filed. It is also a fact that fire dogs are far from being activated on fire incidents, even if an investigation has been carried out and there is a police report.
This is a high number of cases per year where insurance companies and businesses can't be sure that a proper evidence gathering process has been carried out to determine the cause of the fire. And even if it's not a criminal case, there may be apportionment of liability.
Fire investigations and investigations
We believe there is potential for companies and insurance companies to have fire investigations and investigations at hand in cases where it is not sufficiently clear whether a fire occurred intentionally, carelessly or negligently. In claims cases, it's crucial to have the facts gathered.
yourCompany loves collecting specialists. And who would have thought we'd have a four-legged colleague on the team? But now we do. Pyro the fire dog and his handler Vagn both have police backgrounds with the right certifications. They are now part of the yourCompany team as we have entered into a permanent partnership with JV Brandefterforskning.
When Pyro makes a discovery, we also employ skilled forensic experts to ensure that evidence is secured correctly and with the highest quality. It is an extremely professional setup that is now being introduced in Denmark.

Investigation department with investigative managers and specialists
At the same time, yourCompany's investigation department has both investigative managers and specialists in data analysis, digital forensics, observation, voice analysis and document and handwriting analysis. And we have specialists in the use of the Fraud Detective System, which can perform electronic document analysis.
So when a fire case needs to be investigated, we have a team of two- and four-legged colleagues who can handle cases large and small. Both car, machine and building fires.
What our specialists have in common (besides a police background) is that they are used to delivering high quality written material for knowledge sharing and coordination with technical experts, customer case managers, lawyers or attorneys.
Nationwide service as a partner and supplier
Naturally, we have nationwide service. We are both a regular partner and supplier - but we also handle urgent cases. The sooner we get involved, the better chance we have of putting the right measures in place.
