Corporate Investigations - a serious topic

Compliance, Audit Processes, Internal Investigation, Insider Affairs and much more. Companies of all sizes have become familiar with these words in recent years. It wasn't something that used to be addressed in such a structured way.

And what do these concepts mean? Essentially, it means that companies are required to be much closer to their own organization.

Risk management.

Know your employees.

Know your customers.

Be critical of their processes and workflows.

Constantly develop your own control measures.

And - preferably in a digital and scalable way.

And from a fraud perspective, this development is only a good thing, because it narrows the room for maneuver that someone has previously exploited. Or are we?

At yourCompany, we are constantly learning about new methods that we see fraudsters using. That's why we've made it our mission to link investigation with prevention. This means that at the tail end of an investigation, we try to put a ”plug in the hole” so that the same approach cannot cost companies dearly a second time. This requires many different specialties. And this is where we differentiate ourselves from others in the market.

When an investigation is launched, we use our toolbox, for example

  • Digital Forensics (readout of IT equipment and phones)
  • Open Source - structured collection of information via the internet (e.g. background checks)
  • Product monitoring
  • Digital Document Analysis (also large document volumes)
  • Handwriting analysis
  • Voice comparison
  • Data analysis on collected data.

Also the more well-known survey types like:

  • Interviews
  • Observation.

Whether we work with our own departments such as Internal Compliance, external lawyers or our own partners - it all depends on the size and wishes of the company.

We want to challenge the somewhat traditional forms of investigation that often do not lead to a full investigation of a case. In close collaboration with lawyers and legal experts, we can provide the right information so that the management or board has the best informed basis for making decisions.

The purpose of these investigations is often to handle HR matters, prepare for civil lawsuits or even report criminal offenses to the police.

Corporate Investigations are here to stay.
In recent years, we have dealt with cases that could be, for example:

  • Misuse of fuel for private use
  • Theft of customer lists - and subsequent start-up of a competing business
  • Collective attack on the company
  • Theft and subsequent sale of company products
  • Disclosures of trade secrets
  • Abuse of the company's suppliers
  • Document manipulation
  • Receiving bribes
  • Breach of non-compete clauses

As you can imagine, the list is long, and it all goes under the heading of Corporate Investigation - or internal investigations in good old Danish. It's not a pleasant job to talk about - but unfortunately it's necessary.

When we talk Corporate Investigations, we are the ideal partner for some of the work - because very few companies have the setup of specialists and software that we have.
And we don't take on jobs if we don't think we're able to help.
