2023 has hit the ground running. Exploration and investigation in growth

2022 is behind us, and now an exciting year lies ahead.

At yourCompany, the boilers are running at full steam. With more than 100 investigations in 2 months, we can see that the need for fact-finding is high.

You can call it many things: Investigations, inquiries, investigations, fact-finding, data analysis, compliance, KYC, money laundering investigations and other technical terms.

It's all about having a toolbox and know-how that is used at the right time and for the right reason. And the trick is to always keep the investigation at the level where it belongs. Sparrows should not be shot with guns.

From October to January, we have handled more than 150 investigations for our customers, where the facts need to be investigated and a case assessment needs to be given. Some cases end up in the customer's favor - other cases end up saying: "It looked strange on paper, but it was good we got to the bottom of it so we can move on. This is especially true for insurance companies.

The market is roaring

When major media outlets report an increase in insurance claims, shoplifting, fraud, forgery and the like, we can only agree. The past six months have been busy. And unfortunately, this is a clear sign that the crisis is getting worse. And this is seen across many industries - across national borders.

January's big headlines about many mule arrests and large parts of both the financial and public sector being hit by hacker attacks must also emphasize the seriousness of these times. Companies need to take a look at their physical and IT setup - just as it is necessary to take some extra steps in the cases they handle at the case management level.

Prevention, or at least case qualification, is here to stay, as you can't expect the police to solve every problem.

But what is one of the biggest challenges: There are no resources available. Every man is fully utilized - so no new projects and no new good ideas can be brought into the operation.

And that's where we find that you need to consider external resources.

A few examples from 2022:

  • The employee had a CVR number and sent invoices from his own company to the workplace - which he himself approved and sent for payment. The company did not have the resources to investigate the case themselves, and they wanted to avoid their own employees/managers having to investigate the case thoroughly, as personal relationships always come into play.

  • An unrecognized production error at a company led to business-critical risk. This led to employee unrest, with several staff groups suspecting each other of systematic misconduct. Management was solely focused on keeping operations running, so they couldn't figure out how to rebuild trust in the organization. Once the facts were established, the necessary decisions could be made - now on an informed basis - and move forward.

  • A company was exposed to systematic fraud from external parties. Their IT department was tied up with other tasks, so they couldn't prioritize the development of new risk rules for their IT platform. After 2 months, causes were identified, risk rules were designed and operational countermeasures were in place. They have now had no such fraud for more than 9 months. This monthly saving was 4x higher than the cost of yourCompany!

  • A company received a letter of resignation from a key and trusted IT professional on Friday afternoon. When they arrived at work on Monday, the company had experienced data theft of more than 200,000 documents, including critical production drawings. The external IT supplier didn't have the tools and skills to investigate. Fortunately, we were able to help, and our forensic IT tools proved their worth once again.

We are therefore available with survey capacity in the form of, among other things:

  • Data analysis
  • Interviews
  • Observation
  • Open source tools (information gathering from the web)
  • Digital Forensics (readout of IT equipment)
  • Software support for digitalization and automation

And what can you use these services for?

  • Internal investigations
  • External surveys
  • Legal clarification
  • Background check - New hires or current staff
  • Searching for physical assets - asset tracking
  • Risk analysis and prevention of financial losses

The value herein is very different. Some cases are measured in dollars and cents, others in competitive parameters, others in PR/reputation, others in principle.

Often it's about building trust with employees, customers or business partners. Get the facts straight - we're happy to help your business. It's often really good money on the bottom line.
