Naturally, yourCompany ApS also follows the situation in Denmark and the changes Corona has brought about in society.
From a business perspective, we are looking at a picture where crime is expected to move fast. Private homes (a thief's paradise during the holidays) are now filled with working parents and their children. Therefore, it is to be expected that the criminals throw themselves onto other ball fields. And here we believe that business is unfortunately at risk.
Many companies have announced that they have sent a lot of staff home and that they will try to maintain service levels with reduced staffing. In stores, they will keep a distance between customers and staff in order to prevent the spread of infection. In other words, they have switched to emergency staffing and understandable emergency procedures.
Unfortunately, these are parameters that criminals thrive in: low staffing, quiet and lack of surveillance.
And one thing is the increased risk of theft of physical objects in shops, on construction sites, in construction vehicles, in office buildings, in warehouses, etc. We clearly need to be aware of this element.
Another thing we have already seen during this period is Internet-based crime. Scam emails where people pretend to be, for example, from the Danish Health Authority and thus try to lure information, including payment information, out of both private individuals and companies. Another scenario we have also seen is trick theft - where our elderly are tricked by criminals who pretend to be from home care and teach them the correct use of hand sanitizer. How low can you get?
CEO fraud
At the same time, for a couple of years we have experienced CEO fraud during vacation periods where IT criminals exploits changed everyday routines to carry out crime. In Europe, there have just been several cases of CEO fraud amounting to double-digit million euro sums.
Other times, the criminals approach under the guise of being a supplier or business partner and have money transferred to foreign accounts. Simple fraud that unfortunately costs companies dearly.
The Minister of Justice has stated that the police will be given a number of new tasks in relation to health efforts in the fight against the Corona infection. This must naturally mean that many other areas are likely to be given lower priority. This probably includes business cases, which are already not a high priority for the police.
As a service to current and future customers, we've compiled a list of topics that business owners, operators and employees should be aware of. We hope that these topics will inspire you to Review your business with shrinkage glasses on. As always, we are available if you need support in this unfamiliar situation.

Burglary outside opening hours
Review your perimeter security.
- Is monitoring working as intended?
- Consider temporary technical surveillance solutions. Equipment can be rented on a daily basis - maybe it's a good business case for you
- DNA tagging and GPS solution contact us for more detailed options
- Initiate increased patrols at your security company - perhaps team up with your neighboring business to cover the costs.
Theft during opening hours
- Emphasize the issue to your staff
- Give suspicious customers extra service and break their pattern
- Don't get distracted at the checkout while others fill your bag
- Extra product protection
- Purchasing temporary store detectives - establishing exit control
- Use live monitoring more than usual and identify suspicious people.
Fraud - e.g. when leasing/renting machines and cars
- Be reasonably skeptical of customers who now want to lease/rent machines
- Secure customer ID, phone number, license plate
- Ask about the use of the machines
- Avoid paying cash and get a larger deposit - get a credit card registered if possible
- Install GPS tracking, the kind that can be tracked
- DNA tagging of equipment
- Consistent repossession in case of breach of contract.
And unfortunately, we have to mention:
Staff-related crime
- Theft of goods
- Theft of fuel
- Theft of office supplies, IT, TV and photo equipment
- Unauthorized use of machines or rentals
- Bribery/corruption as we have seen in several recent cases in the press.
The list is certainly not exhaustive, but perhaps we are addressing something that you have understandably not been able to have on your to-do list amidst shift planning, task distribution, homework and not least while avoiding Corona infection.
