yourCompany has once again helped a company that was faced with an unfortunate case. One of those cases where the company's own staff had their fingers in the till in the wrong way.<\/strong><\/p>\n

By its very nature, this is a very sensitive matter that requires the right approach and the right skills to be investigated and documented. The case must be so well handled and documented that it can withstand a personnel\/HR case, a civil lawsuit and, in this case, a police report.<\/p>\n

The perpetrator was in the company's own ranks. Initially, it was suspected that the colleague was selling goods out the back door and thus earning money for himself. Several hundred thousand kroner worth of goods were missing from the warehouse.<\/p>\n

And how do you solve that headache? In this case, the answer was: in-depth online research, data analysis, observation, coordination with the police and, of course, thorough reporting throughout the process.<\/p>\n

Finally, yourCompany assisted by being present in the eviction situation to avoid the common pitfalls.<\/p>\n

After handling the personnel measures, the case and the perpetrator were handed over to the police, who could then carry out interventions such as searches at relevant locations.<\/p>\n

The case has made us reflect on how much a company actually loses on such a messy case. The staff at yourCompany are all former police officers who have been accustomed (from criminal cases in the police) to claims for damages being settled at cost. So a stolen item for DKK 25,000 is the same face value as the compensation claim.<\/p>\n

But working with companies in the private sector has made us wiser on this point.<\/p>\n

Let's give an example:<\/h2>\n

We determine the missing inventory to be an immediate loss of 200,000 DKK.<\/p>\n

Depending on the profit margin per item and other consequential costs, we create a fictitious financial statement:<\/p>\n

Staff time<\/u>\u00a0to determine the cause of the loss (checking sales systems, contacting suppliers, contacting staff, contacting customers, reviewing video surveillance): 30 hours at $400 (estimated hourly rate for a warehouse manager): $12,000.<\/p>\n

Reordering<\/u>\u00a0of the product type: DKK 170,000.<\/p>\n

Lack of inventory<\/u>: 200.000 kr.<\/p>\n

Logistics costs<\/u>: 20,000 kr.<\/p>\n

And we could go on and on...<\/p>\n

The total loss is probably around 500,000 DKK.<\/p>\n

How many units of the relevant product group do you need to sell to break even? And how much do you need to sell to make up the loss?<\/p>\n

Is there a budget set aside to look inward?<\/h2>\n

Businesses typically have large budgets for marketing, webshops, outreach sales, sales campaigns and much more. But if you occasionally set aside funds to have competent people looking inwards, it can also turn out to be good business.<\/p>\n
